Generations Ahead works with organizations around the country to expand the public debate on the social and ethical implications of genetic technologies. We look at the benefits and consequences to different communities, and build the capacity of social justice organizations to take more informed positions and advocate for socially just policies.
Our mission is to bring diverse communities together to promote policies on genetic technologies that protect human rights and affirm our shared humanity. To realize this mission, we build the capacity of social justice leaders and organizations to understand the complexity of these issues, integrate them into existing agendas, work towards alignment on values, and collaboratively develop advocacy campaigns to ensure justice in the use of genetic technologies now, and for generations ahead.
We currently have a staff of six and our nine-member Board of Directors comprises leaders from key movements across the country; 80% are women of color with members also identifying as Queer, young, immigrant, raised-poor, and with disabilities.
We believe that just and responsible policies can only be developed by including the perspectives and priorities of communities of color, people with disabilities, LGBTQ communities, Indigenous communities, economically vulnerable communities, young people, families, and women in the national discourse, and that the needs and concerns of these constituents should be integral in any policy-making.
We are building and mobilizing a critical new network of social justice organizations and leaders towards this goal.
